Sinopse: This is the second exhibition of the series "Arquitetura Brasileira" [Brazilian Architecture] curated by an architectural scholar. In this exhibition, Julio Katinsky investigates the public venues at which the city brings together its inhabitants. In the first event of the series titled "Viver na Floresta" {Living in the forest], Abilio Guerra examined architecture's quest to comfort with the natural environment. In this second event architect Katinsky examines in detail the golden age of Brazilian architecture: the modernist designs implemented in the 20th century throughout the country that climaxed in the construction of the new capital Brasilia. "Most critics and historians of art and architecture share the view that the early days of modern Brazilian architecture were informed by Le'Corbusier's ideas and theories as well as his visits to the country in the 1920's and 1930's. Since the very start, however, they have been aware of certain subtle differences between the architecture and art practiced in Brazil and their original European roots. The first and most obvious of these differences is as a major banner of the Constructivism in Brazil, the modern industry as an expensive element of contemporary architecture." --Page 18.
