Título: Leonilson agora e as oportunidades
Autor: Adriano Pedrosa
Sinopse: Leonilson (José Leonilson Bezerra Dias, Fortaleza, Brazil, 1957-1993, São Paulo, Brazil) is a central figure in Brazilian and Latin American art and a key reference in the broader context of artists who address queer themes. Although often associated with the 80's Generation, his most unique and mature works were produced in the last five years of his life, between 1989 and 1993, the period that serves as the framework for this book - he died as a result of complications from AIDS, at the age of 36. During this brief period, Leonilson developed a highly personal language, often incorporating text in a poetic and diaristic manner into his drawings, paintings, installations, and embroidery. Her works intensely express her passions and emotions, exploring themes such as love, abandonment, loss, loneliness, and illness. However, he also reflects on his feelings towards politics, as seen in the painting that gives this book its title, Agora e oportunidades, along with other works in the series dedicated to minorities. This publication is the largest monograph published on Leonilson to this day, accompanying a large exhibition dedicated to him at the Museu de Arte de São Paulo Assis Chateaubriand.
